Minor Guitar Chords for Beginners
The difference between a minor chord and a major chord is that the 3rd note of the minor chord is a semitone lower. For example: if we have a C# as the 3rd in an A major chord, in an A minor chord we will have a C.
A Major Chord
A Major Chord Consists of Three Notes: 1 A – 3 C# – 5 E
A Minor Chord
A Minor Chord Consists of Three Notes: 1 A – 3b C – 5 E
For example, this is used to make the A chord fit into a chord progression in the key of C. Since an A Major chord integrates a C# note, it would be very difficult to fit into a key like C major. However, the A minor chord fits perfectly, due to the absence of sharps in its construction.
We will start by practicing a sequence in C Major: 1st – 6th – 3rd – 5th.
